Save the Civic: a Coalition to Rescue the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, comprised of concerned community members and local business leaders, will work towards the common goal of restoring and enhancing the Civic’s place as a vibrant cultural and community hub, as well as saving its landmark architecture and continuing its celebrated heritage. The Coalition envisions uses for the historic Santa Monica Civic Auditorium such as, but not limited to, a world class performing arts center for music, dance, theatre, film, art, and the digital arts, a center for public/non profit/private-sector conferences, exhibitions, expositions, symposiums, award ceremonies and dinners, events and meetings. The Coalition envisions the Civic as a landmark, connected organically to the surrounding community. The coalition, through exploration of comparable models in other U.S. cities, will seek to develop recommendations for a management approach that will be profitable and enable long term, efficient operation. The coalition will help garner public support for any viable approach.
